Reuben will be presenting a professional development workshop for teaching artists and educators as part of Teachers & Writers Collaborative’s Artist Meeting series.

College essays can be the most daunting writing assignment high school students face. They don’t have to be. In this workshop, we look at strategies Teaching Artists can use to instruct college essay writing in public school classrooms and to coach students one-on-one. We will also explore some practical challenges of admissions essay support, including uncertainty around AI use and federal policy changes impacting specific student populations. Participants will have the chance to engage in group discussion to exchange ideas on challenges and best practices. Our shared goal: provide the support students need to craft their best personal essays.”

Puppet characters like Nico aren’t just fun, crafty toys. They can help students tell stories about-and understand-the world around them and process challenging emotions. So many social-emotional learning skills are unlocked. They can be especially powerful access points in classrooms with neurodiverse and multilingual learners. And in the process of learning through play, students get to practice sustainability, breathing new life into trash and transforming it into something special.”
